The Israeli Branch leader of the Assyrian Supreme Council, Einat Ben Yossef, met with Member of Knesset Nissim Vaturi to raise awareness of the Assyrian people and the challenges we continue to face.
Many in Israeli public life are still unaware that Assyrians exist today as a distinct nation. Too often, we are placed broadly under “the Christian world,” without recognition of our unique identity, history, language, and heritage. We are working to change that.
During the meeting, we asked Nissim Vaturi to support the establishment of a parliamentary lobby for the Assyrian cause in the Knesset. Such a lobby would help build meaningful political and public support for Assyrian recognition, representation, and rights.
We have also met with Amit Halevi, Keti Shitrit, and Tally Gotliv, all of whom have shown a genuine willingness to stand with the Assyrian people.
These relationships are ongoing, and we believe they will continue to strengthen Israel’s understanding of who the Assyrians are.
With the Knesset expected to dissolve and elections likely in September, we understand that progress may slow for a period of time. MKs are entering campaign mode, and major initiatives are difficult to advance until the next Knesset is formed. Still, the groundwork we have laid is real, and it positions us to continue pushing forward once the political dust settles.

A Historic Alliance: The Assyrian Supreme Council and the Levant Council of the United States
In a significant moment for both the Assyrian and Levantine communities, the Assyrian Supreme Council has formed a pivotal partnership with the Levant Council of the United States. This alliance was formalised through a memorandum of understanding, highlighting a shared commitment to several essential goals:
The agreement also underscores the importance of Israel as a key ally in the fight against anti-Semitism, fostering solidarity among diverse communities facing challenges.
Reflecting on the signing of this historic agreement, the head of the Assyrian Supreme Council branch in Israel shared moving words that resonate deeply. "Standing at this moment of significance," he said, "I realised just how powerful a single historic event can be. After decades of work behind a keyboard, I found my handwriting—my signature—had turned into something resembling hieroglyphs. This small, almost humorous struggle reminded me of the deeply human meaning behind this agreement. It signifies our commitment to preserving heritage, protecting ancient languages, and safeguarding cultures on the brink of extinction. It represents a promise to look out for one another amidst constant threats and daily dangers."
Sharing the podium was Dr Tamim Kromashu, President of the Levant Council, a remarkable individual known for his integrity, vision, and character. Standing alongside him during this meaningful moment was a privilege—a testament to the power of collaboration in championing shared values and protecting the rich tapestry of diverse cultures.
As this alliance unfolds, it stands as a beacon of hope and unity, reminding us all of the importance of cultural preservation, peaceful coexistence, and the resilience of communities dedicated to safeguarding their legacies.
